postheadericon Simple Things Sunday: Pumpkin Carving

Today was a very relaxing, cool, fall day here in North Carolina!  The temperature was crisp (my Florida bones actually say cold..brrr) and we had a nice day playing at the park and carving the pumpkins we picked out last week at Patterson Farm!  We are ready for trick-or-treating tomorrow night with our friends and eating candy until our bellies hurt!  For Jillian it won’t take much, she isn’t much of a sweets-eater, but for Chloe it’s a whole different story, lol!  She likes candy as much as I like coffee!  Jillian is dressing up as one of her favorite characters, Hermione Granger from Harry Potter, and Chloe is going to be a witch!  I’m glad they picked long warm costumes because it is going to be a cold one!

postheadericon Photo: Halloween Cake

My oldest sweetie pie has an October birthday so last year we decided to throw her a Halloween Costume Party!  Since Halloween is just around the corner I thought I’d share a couple pictures of her amazing cake!  Although it was constructed in my kitchen I really can’t take credit for it.  My friend, Angela, did most of the work!  She creates beautiful cakes and since I wanted Jillian’s cake to be “home-made” she offered to share her talent and help me make it (which really meant bake it in my kitchen and let me help :P)   Thanks again Angela!

postheadericon Patterson Farm, Inc. Pumpkin Patch Tours

Are you looking for a pumpkin patch in North Carolina?  Last weekend my family enjoyed visiting Patterson Farm, Inc. which is a fun working farm located in Mount Ulla, NC.  I say it is a working farm because it isn’t just your ordinary pumpkin patch.  They harvest different crops year round and offer tours and activities for each and are actually one of the largest tomato growers in the state!  To us, though, they are a family tradition spot of picking strawberries and pumpkins each year!  During the fall months we go to experience the pumpkin patch, corn maze, tractor-pulled hay rides, pig races, animal feedings, pony rides, and  super-fun playground including a corn filled “sand box.”  My girls love doing all of the activities and then finishing up with some cold ice cream cones!

postheadericon Carolina BalloonFest 2011

Tonight was the kickoff of the 2011 Carolina BalloonFest 38  and we were there to see the Mass Ascension where about 50 hot air balloons decorated the sky!  It is located in Statesville, NC and held one weekend per year!  There is music entertainment, a fun kid zone, vendors, fair food, and of course the beautiful hot air balloons!

postheadericon JC’s Outdoors on The Virginia Creeper Trail

How do you pick the right business when you are booking a tour, excursion, or outing?  Do you read reviews or go by what someone suggests to you?  Do you look at websites and pick your favorite one?  Well this past weekend we headed to Virginia to ride the Virginia Creeper Trail and we made reservations with JC’s Outdoors.  I got online and came across several outfitters that looked great, but when I came to this business I knew I’d be happy doing business with them!

postheadericon Creep the Creeper ~ The Virginia Creeper Trail

This past weekend we headed up to Virginia to ride the Virginia Creeper Trail.  This is one of the easiest and prettiest bike rides we’ve ever done.  It’s a tree covered pea-gravel trail that takes you along rolling farms and running creeks crossing over numerous picture perfect trestles.  If you’re ever in southwest Virginia you must take the time to do this ride!

postheadericon Lakeland, Florida ~ Swan Lake

Lake Morton (Swan Lake) in Lakeland, Florida is a place that you will find many different types of birds including seagulls, pelicans, ducks, and geese.  It is better known, though, to be the home of the majestic swans hence the nickname Swan Lake.  You will find both black swans and white swans on this little romantic gem of a lake located in Lakeland’s historic district!  It is between Lake Mirror and Lake Hollingsworth and home to the annual Mayfaire by-the-Lake, an outdoors Art Festival held every Mother’s Day weekend.
