Are you looking for a pumpkin patch in North Carolina? Last weekend my family enjoyed visiting Patterson Farm, Inc. which is a fun working farm located in Mount Ulla, NC. I say it is a working farm because it isn’t just your ordinary pumpkin patch. They harvest different crops year round and offer tours and activities for each and are actually one of the largest tomato growers in the state! To us, though, they are a family tradition spot of picking strawberries and pumpkins each year! During the fall months we go to experience the pumpkin patch, corn maze, tractor-pulled hay rides, pig races, animal feedings, pony rides, and super-fun playground including a corn filled “sand box.” My girls love doing all of the activities and then finishing up with some cold ice cream cones!
Your admission ($8) gets you a wristband to use the facility and go on the hay ride. You also get a cup of food to feed all of the animals in this barn. There are goats, pigs, turkeys, peacocks, rabbits, and birds. (It is not a petting farm. You put the food down a tube and the animal eat it.) I love that they have antibacterial soap at the exit of the barn! They also have a really neat old-fashion hand washing sink where lots of kids can wash up at the same time!
The playground has a couple different play sets including a “pirate ship” and tire horse swings. The backdrop is a field of crops and trees shade much of the area! There are lots of picnic tables around, too!
A new addition to this area is the tomato sling shot which was a huge hit with the dads! Kids must be 8 to do it so Jillian gave it a try, but I think it gave the dads a chance to be a kid again! There are two sling shots and two targets. Check it out:
Another new activity is the cow barrel train ride. I think this is great for the younger kiddos.
The hayride takes you out to a patch where pumpkins are scattered all over a pretty field. At this farm you do not pick off of the vine. You just pick your favorite pumpkin from the patch. The ride drops you off at the market where you weigh and pay for your pumpkins. They also have fresh vegetables, local honey, and more….Oh yeah….and yummy ice cream!
Last, but not least, here are some of the fresh veggies from the market!
Whether you’re looking to make home-made pumpkin pie, pumpkin milk shakes, pumpkin seeds, or just want some pumpkins to carve…head over to Patterson Farm, Inc. or your local patch and grab some! It is a family-fun activity that you’re sure to enjoy!
