It’s that time of year again and apple growers around the country are welcoming customers to their farms to pick apples! It has become a family tradition of ours to go to Sky Top Orchard in Flat Rock, NC and we look forward to it each year! This is our third year and I must say that we enjoyed it more than ever! The kids really love taking part of the picking and choosing process and then using what they found in recipes and lunchboxes for the fall season!
Sky Top is located in the mountains of western North Carolina and offers beautiful mountain views, delicious apples, grapes, peaches, and pears, a barnyard area, wagon rides, and yummy baked goods! The orchard is family owned and operated and I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Lindsey on our visit! One of the things that we love about Sky Top is they don’t sell to grocery stores so the apples are harvested only when they reach peak perfection! They will let you know which apples are ready insuring that the ones you do pick are delish! If you forget, don’t worry, there are employees all over that will happily tell you where the best ones are! Take a look at this view!!
My girls really love playing on the playground and on the huge hay spider! We also really love the wagon ride because it gives you a tour of the orchard and allows you to see how beautiful it really is!
Once you are out in the orchard you can go in and out the rows and rows of apples. Look at how yummy these look!
There is a great barnyard with goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, and ducks. There is also this really great and picturesque bamboo forest and bridge that we spent some time exploring!! My girls loved running through…
And the open space to roam…..
These wagons are so cute…
In previous years we waited until later in the season because we wanted to go when there was more fall foliage, but this year we decided to go early and we were so glad that we did! There were so many apples to be picked!!
Don’t those look wonderful!! I can’t believe I waited until this year to try the apple donuts. The past couple of years the line was long and we just decided to skip, but now I know why the line was so long…these things are so good….
I had 2! And I wanted to have more, but I had to save room for the hot apple pie we got to take home!
If you don’t have time to pick, but want the fresh apples don’t worry. The store has them bagged and ready to go for you!
They also have a snack bar for slushies and carmel apples as well as home-made butters to buy!
As usual, we had a wonderful time! Here are a few other random pics we took.
