Kaanapali Beach is stunning.  It may be one of the best beaches on the island and, in my opinion, one of my favorite beaches ever!  The contrast of colors will take your breath away with its beautiful turquoise water and rose colored sand!  The snorkeling is amazing and the backdrop is Lanai and Molokai…seriously, what’s not to love about it!!

Honolua Bay Maui

One of the Best Snorkel Spots on Maui

Honolua Bay is located on Maui’s northwest shore and it’s not only known for pristine snorkeling and scuba diving in the calm summer months, but also for its hollow, powerful waves in the winter high surf season!

The bay is part of the Mokuleia Marine Life Conservation District so there is no shortage of marine life to see.  On any given day you might spot octopus, squid, turtles, rays, eels, and lots of other colorful, tropical fish.  One of my favorites was a huge spiky puffer fish!

Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies located in Gatlinburg, TN is a fun half day adventure for the whole family!  We got to visit the aquarium as a side trip ending our wonderful weekend in Bryson City, NC!  We drove through the snowy mountains to this hustling town that has just about every tourist attraction you can imagine.

The kiddos love the huge walk through/ride through tunnel with a huge variety of sea creatures swimming by.  You will see anything and everything from sharks, sword fish, and eels, to beautiful schools of fish.

postheadericon Hanauma Bay

Hanauma Bay

– Ahhh….one of my favorite beaches!  There is something so soothing about being here.  We’ve snorkeled different reefs and these are OK, but the way you are almost surrounded by the elevations makes laying here all day just perfect.

The calm waters of the bay provide perfect conditions for floating over the reefs. The bay floor is actually the crater of an ancient volcano that flooded when the exterior wall collapsed and the ocean rushed in.  The reefs are filled with a diverse population of marine life and we were lucky enough to see/swim with a sea turtle while we were there (among many other species of fish).
